As a coach, how long do you work with an employee who is falling short of job performance standards? As a manager, when should you "deselect" that employee out of the department or organization?
Though we hope we rarely have to terminate an employee, our willingness to take this step, if necessary, helps maintain performance standards. Healthy adults accept that there are boundaries that, when crossed, lead to separation. As leaders, we must clearly communicate where those boundaries of job performance and employee conduct exist, and set the conditions for people to be successful working within those boundaries.
