Feb. 20--Six thousand is the magic number at this year's South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
That's the size of the crowd organizers have decided can fit inside the Grand Tasting tent each day without leading to the long lines, shortages and the general chaos that reigned last year. During that event, at least 12,000 people a day jammed into the tent.
Now, for the first time, no tickets will be for sale on the day of the event. Don't bother trying to talk your way in, no matter who you are or whom you know.
"I think we have a lot to prove this year," said Lee Brian Schrager, founder and festival director. "Hopefully by next year the word will get out that we've fixed a lot of the issues and people will be back."
