Village seeks golf-cart designation.

Residents of Shell Point may own top dollar beach-front homes, but you won't see them wheeling around the community in Corvettes and pricey sport utility vehicles.

Well, some of them may, but most of the time, you'll see them in golf carts.

"Just about everyone down there has one," said Jim Esner, a Shell Point Realty agent. "Every time I sold something (in Shell Point), I told them where to get a golf cart."

So residents in Shell Point Village, a mobile-home community near the water, want to make areas south of Harbour Point Drive a "golf-cart community," an official designation that will enable residents to use golf carts on county roads legally. Right now, it's a common practice, but it's illegal.
