Jun. 11--The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating allegations of "mishandling of funds" by the former president of the Franklin County Senior Citizens Council, an FDLE spokesman said.

And state Rep. Will Kendrick, D-Carrabelle, who had been the council's executive director, resigned that job last Friday in the wake of the investigation, which began last month.

Kendrick, reached by phone, declined to explain the reasons for his leaving the council but said he would seek a new career in real estate. He had worked for the council since late 2003; his salary was unavailable Friday.
