It was directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, best known for After-Life, whose gentle, unblinking eye elevates this docudrama into a melancholy portrait of urban life in all its forlorn beauty. The movie's dominated by anime-faced Yuya Yagira, whose stunning performance as the quartet's twelve-year-old leader Akira won him the Best Actor prize at Cannes.
