I can remember the days when I would never order dessert (unless it was some wimpy fruit sorbet) for fear that some skinny girl would report me to the fat patrol. That paranoia lingered long after I'd become a skinny girl myself, dropping from a size 14 to a size 2 (OK, maybe a 4, depending on the label), way back before gastric bypass was a mere gleam in a surgeon's eye. Although I've been able to maintain my svelte self for years, it's only been by watching what I eat and keeping up with the always changing, sometimes frustrating, and often intriguing advice on the latest way to lose weight.
