My memories are vivid when I think about the first time I took aspirin. I was twelve years old and in bed-feverish, sniffly, and miserable. My mother brought me two orange chewable tablets and a glass of Tang (yes, it was the
seventies), and the aches and pains went away by the next day. It was a miracle drug as far as I was concerned, and my infatuation continued through my early teens.
But that faith evaporated before I even finished high school. I now go for the potent stuff, like Advil, whether it's for cramps or sore muscles. Aspirin is for the weak or the elderly.
