Resort has become big, serious business. It is the best way to forecast what's coming in fashion. It bridges
the gray retail months
between late October and the New Year. Resort? It isn't just for vacation anymore.
The first newsworthy resort piece I saw this season was on the back of Selma Blair, whom I escorted to the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards gala in mid-June, several days before Resort Week proper. When I picked Selma up at her hotel, I knew this was something new, from a collection not yet seen: Vermillion was layered next to shocking pink, next to mandarin-
orange, in dazzling color blocks. And as Selma stepped out of our SUV onto the steps of the New York Public Library, it became one of the most exciting and talked-about dresses of the night.
Who had made it? Isaac Mizrahi. Back again, in another incarnation.
