Feb. 28--NBC -- whose $30 million investment in the XFL is turning into a mega-disaster -- made a huge mistake passing on the NFL, said Leslie Moonves, CEO of rival CBS, home of pro football telecasts.

"NBC's assuming they would lose money on the NFL was inaccurate," Moonves said yesterday at a conference co-sponsored by Variety and Credit Suisse First Boston. "I think if you asked NBC, 'Do you wish you did it differently,' I don't think there's a man there who wouldn't say that."
