Feb. 28--Americans' consumer confidence slipped to its lowest point in 4 1/2 years, sending the Nasdaq composite index plunging to a two-year low yesterday.
At the same time The Conference Board was reporting on consumer attitudes, the Commerce Department said new home sales plunged 10.9 percent in January, the biggest drop in seven years, and orders for big-ticket items such as refrigerators and dishwashers also slumped,...
