Feb. 27--In engineering, it's a man's world.
Just 10 percent of the nation's engineers are women, the lowest of any professional occupation. Organizers of this year's national engineering week are working to even the score, telling girls that they too can build the world's bridges, tunnels and skyscrapers.
"We want to get the message out that engineering is definitely where the future is," said Linda Scherr, program director of IBM's women in technology initiative, co-sponsor of the week's events. "We need a female perspective in designing products and services."
