Feb. 26--ESTATE TAX BACKED BY UNLIKELY SOURCE: This is a classic example of a "man bites dog" story.
Consider this: A group of billionaires have formed a group opposed to the elimination of the federal estate tax -- high on President Bush's list.
Remember, this is the group that the estate tax hits the hardest. So why would they be opposed to getting rid of it?
Because it would be "bad for our democracy, our economy and our society," the group said in an ad in The New York Times last week. "Repealing the estate tax, a constructive part of our tax structure for 85 years, would leave an unfortunate legacy for America's future generations."
The group, which calls itself "Responsible Wealth"...
