Feb. 25--Dr. Leber Beall hyperextended his knee while duck hunting last September, and when the joint continued to swell, he ordered a magnetic resonance image to find out whether he had torn a ligament or just bruised the bone.
"I didn't fool with X-rays at all," said Dr. Beall, medical director of radiology at Charlton Methodist Hospital. "I went straight to the tests that I knew would show what I thought I had. The MRI on my knee showed bone contusion of my tibia that you would not have seen with any other test."
Advanced technology has improved diagnostics, but it has meant radiologists and radiological technologists are busier than ever....
