Feb. 27--The union representing pilots at American Airlines Inc. said it lacks the funds to pay a $45.5 million judgment after the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear an appeal of the penalty.

The judgment threatens to bankrupt the Allied Pilots Association unless the union can reach a settlement with the airline over collection of the money.
