Feb. 23--National Heritage Insurance Co., a subsidiary of technology services provider Electronic Data Systems Corp., is being investigated on allegations that it overcharged the state "tens of millions of dollars," a key House member said.
An insurance company spokesman called the accusation disturbing and said the company found it baseless.
No criminal charges have been filed. Travis County investigators have searched the insurance company and EDS offices in Plano to seize records related to the Medicaid contract.
The company has administered the state's $20 billion Medicaid program for 23 years.
Top legislative budget writers said they would launch their own investigation, and Gov. Rick Perry said "any hint of impropriety in the Medicaid program" should be thoroughly examined.
