Feb. 24--The Belo Foundation's $5 million gift will bring a groundbreaking multimedia journalism program to Southern Methodist University, officials said.

The gift, which was formally announced Friday on the SMU campus, will fund a digital newsroom and a television studio on the campus and endow the Belo Distinguished Chair in Journalism.

SMU President R. Gerald Turner said the donation signifies an important partnership between Belo and the university.
