Feb. 21--Exxon Mobil Corp. must pay $1 billion to 10,000 gas station owners who were overcharged for gasoline over 12 years, a federal jury in Miami decided Tuesday.
The unanimous jury decision ended a decades-old fight by the dealers to bring Exxon to account on allegations of fraud and breach of contract. The dealers alleged that the company had failed to keep its side of a 1980s sales agreement that promised dealers more than a penny per gallon reduction in the wholesale price of gasoline to offset extra charges for each credit card sale.
