KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. _ Jennifer Capriati's momentum was slipping away Wednesday, but she hadn't come close to exhausting her supply of resolve.
Serving at 4-5 in the second-set tiebreak, she won a 22-stroke rally that not only trumpeted her new high level of fitness but started her on the final dash to a momentous victory over the damaged but ever-dangerous Serena Williams and into the semifinals of the Ericsson Open.
Three times Capriati dug balls out in the corners to keep herself in that key point and, finally, frustrated by her inability to batter Capriati down, Williams drove an unforced error into the net.
Two points later, Capriati, seeded fifth, was rejoicing in a 6-1, 7-6 (5) triumph and Williams, who has been fighting a quadraceps injury...
