Mar. 12--Brandi Chastain's sports bra may have dominated the spotlight after the U.S. won the 1999 Women's World Cup soccer championship, but sports marketers Debra Zeyen and Lisa Sherman said a much bigger story took place up in the stands.
"A breakthrough 90,000 fans packed the Rose Bowl that day. . . . And so many were young girls who realized, probably for the first time, that that could be them (in a U.S. team jersey)," Sherman said.
