Mar. 7--A federal judge handed the record industry a mixed victory yesterday when she ordered Napster, the popular online song-swapping service, to begin blocking its users from trading copyrighted music.
San Francisco Judge Marilyn Patel stopped short of shutting Napster down, however, a widely expected outcome of the ongoing legal battle between the Recording Industry Association of America and the California start-up.
