Mar. 22--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--A proposal to write a $100 compensation check for every residential tree cut down by the Citrus Canker Eradication Program survived its first Senate committee Wednesday after its champion, Sen. Steve Geller, D-Hallandale Beach, backed away from a proposal to raid the citrus industry for some of the money.
