Mar. 14--Stuart Varney--co-anchor of CNN's ratings-challenged "Moneyline News Hour" since Lou Dobbs abruptly departed in 1999--has quit after feuding with network founder Ted Turner and battling with news execs over the direction of the show, CNN sources said.
Last Thursday, after hearing that Turner called CNN employees who observed Ash Wednesday "Jesus freaks," Varney resigned in a huff, sources said, although his resignation was kept quiet.
But Varney's and Turner's relationship soured more than a year ago after the anchor questioned Turner during a "Moneyline" appearance.
