Mar. 19--In the 40 years he's been drawing cartoons, Sam Gross has come up with a lot of ideas for making money.
Like a screen saver made up of lawyer cartoons, a promotion to post a cartoon of the week in neighborhood bars, a Web site called "10 Laughs a Day," a Mother's Day cartoon book called "Moms" and a Barnes & Noble cartoon calendar.
"Usually with these things, some horrendous thing eventually happens and we get totally shafted," he said cheerfully one recent afternoon.
But Gross has not given up.
Like all freelance artists, he often has been forced to come up with creative ways to make a living.
