Mar. 16--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--A state financing package for a new Florida Marlins stadium hung by a thread in the Senate Thursday, when the bill's only sponsor prepared to abandon it, then decided to keep it alive until next week after meeting with the team's chief lobbyist.
Sen. Alex Villalobos, R-Miami, said he was concerned the plan -- which would give the Marlins a rebate on about $6 million in sales taxes for 20 years -- would end up sticking taxpayers with millions of debt in the future.
