Mar. 15--Industry support for a controversial overhaul of Miami-Dade's building regulatory process -- one that would allow developers to largely police themselves -- solidified Wednesday at Mayor Alex Penelas' "Building Together" summit at the Port of Miami.
Speaking before several hundred industry executives, Penelas and other top Miami-Dade officials made their case for revamping the Building Department's current permitting and inspection process -- which they cite as a deterrent to economic development.
"We have not come here with any predetermined conclusions," Penelas said. "We do come here, however, with a predetermined objective. And that is to remedy the delays and frustrations encountered by the building industry, professionals and the average citizen in securing building permits."
