Mar. 28--BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--The bursting of the tech-stock bubble has also sucked a lot of hot air out of discussions about the impact of the Internet on business.

Maybe the Internet doesn't change everything after all.

"We all got caught up in the dot.com thing," Steven Milunovich, managing director and coordinator of global technology research at Merrill Lynch & Co., said last week at the Milken Institute's conference on economic policy.

"We thought the Internet was the new, new thing," said John C. Beck, senior research fellow at the Accenture Institute for Strategic Change in Phoenix. "But it turns out it's just another channel that some segment of the population uses. It's not a new economy."
