Mar. 28--American Airlines Inc., hoping to get its pilots' approval for its merger with Trans World Airlines Inc., promised a series of job guarantees and concessions Tuesday.
But in two letters sent to American's pilots, airline officials said such matters as pensions, early retirement and travel benefits should wait until the airline and the Allied Pilots Association begin formal contract talks this summer.
After reviewing the letters, APA president John Darrah said some of the airlines' proposals are acceptable and that an agreement is possible if both sides try. But he criticized the letters as misleading and inaccurate on both the union's proposals and the airline's responses....
