Mar. 27--"Friends, we have problems," Alpha Center consultant and co-founder Walt Marks told the Charlotte County School Board Tuesday night.
Facing a debt nearly twice as large as last year's, officials from the area's first charter school may need to create up to five more schools to recoup their losses.
In other cost-saving measures, Marks revealed the school will cut two teachers and three other positions next year, cancel the summer program, refinance long-term loans and consolidate its service area to exclude students transported from Venice. The anticipated savings an estimated $266,000.
