Mar. 25--Although the dreaded "R" word -- recession -- is starting to pop up more often, teens and college students in South Florida looking for summer jobs and internships need not panic, at least not yet.
Admittedly less high-paying than during the Internet boom of last year, jobs are still available for this summer, say career specialists and guidance counselors. And companies are still looking to hire.
Burger flippers, cashiers, grocery baggers, salespeople, customer service representatives are all in demand in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. So are internships for engineers, architects, accountants, financial specialists, musicians, stock brokers and even website designers.
"The job market is fairly healthy," said Michael Gage, director of the Toppel Career Center at the University of Miami. "So far there are no indicators that things are slowing down, at least not for college students."
