Mar. 22--Almost 500 people who live near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport protested a proposed runway expansion Wednesday they say will boost noise pollution and drive down property values in their neighborhoods.
"With noise levels and the air pollution, life will not be worth living if this expansion goes through," said Alan Watson, who lives in Melaleuca Gardens in Dania Beach.
The $554 million proposed expansion would lengthen the south runway from the current 5,300 feet to 9,000 feet by the time the project is complete in about 2005. This...
