Apr. 6--Silicon Alley's Winstar, one of the country's biggest upstart telecom companies, said yesterday it would fire 2,000 workers to save money as it searches for a much-needed infusion of cash.
The layoffs amount to more than 40 percent of the company's work force of about 4,500.
