Mar. 30--AUSTIN, Texas--A bill that would allow for the construction of a low-level nuclear waste dump in West Texas is once again drawing opposition in the Texas Legislature.
County officials, private citizens and environmental and public interest groups joined Thursday in raising concerns about a bill by Sen. Robert Duncan, R-Lubbock, that they say would make Texas a dumping ground for the nation's nuclear waste.
Testifying before the Senate National Resources Committee, the witnesses cited health, safety and other concerns about the proposal, including a provision that would allow a private company to operate the facility.
