Mar. 30--WASHINGTON -- One of the most coveted posts under the Bush administration, the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, will remain for now in the hands of career diplomat Jeffrey Davidow, sources in Mexico City and Washington confirm.
People familiar with the process say competition for the job is so intense the Bush administration has decided to keep Mr. Davidow on board while it carefully sorts out the short list of candidates, most of which are from Texas. No timetable was set for how long Mr. Davidow will stay in Mexico City, though it's likely he will remain to the end of the year, said sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
