Apr. 12--Web giant Yahoo surprised Wall Street late yesterday with profits that beat dramatically reduced expectations, but warned that its problems were far from over and said it would cut 12 percent of its workforce -- about 420 employees.

While anticipation of the announcement that came after the market closed sent Yahoo's stock down 16 cents to $15.86 during regular trading, it didn't hold back the Nasdaq...
