Apr. 25--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--A Broward lawmaker is moving to ensure that beachfront property owners across Florida would be able to redevelop their land as it deteriorates or after a disaster, without reducing the number of people each site would accommodate.
Sen. Steve Geller, D-Hallandale Beach, has attached an amendment to Senate growth management legislation that flies in the face of a longstanding Broward County policy to gradually reduce density on the beachfront. The amendment would allow redevelopment at the original density -- before local land-use policies capped it at 50 units per acre. That cap could soon be reduced to 25 units per acre.
