Apr. 17--Cisco, once among the hottest tech bellwethers, confirmed yesterday it will have to shed 8,500 jobs, while sales this quarter will fall short even of previously diminished estimates.
The No. 1 manufacturer of Internet equipment said its profits will be reduced by $2.5 billion due to equipment it can't sell and by $800 million to $1.2 billion for costs related to the layoffs.
