Apr. 24--Gerald Stevens, the Fort Lauderdale floral retailer cofounded by former H. Wayne Huizenga protege Steven R. Berrard, filed for bankruptcy reorganization Monday.
The filing comes as Gerald Stevens' busiest season is under way, with Easter, Secretaries' Day and Mother's Day the three big flower-selling occasions in the spring. The company listed assets of $194.9 million and $66.8 million in debt in the Chapter 11 petition, filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Miami.
Gerald Stevens operates the largest company-owned network of flower shops, with more than 300 locations around the country. The stock fell 15 cents to close at 9 cents...
