Apr. 25--Proving that necessity is the mother of reinvention, BankUnited Financial, a Coral Gables institution that is a surprising contender for the title of biggest bank based in Florida, said its second-quarter profits hit record levels.
It also announced a management restructuring, one that will dramatically alter the role played by Mehdi Ghomeshi, the former Barnett Bank executive who has helped guide the institution through much of its transformation from a tiny, somewhat stodgy savings and loan to full-service commercial bank.
