Apr. 27--Professional service firms are bracing for the continued economic slowdown that may affect more South Florida businesses by year's end.
Law firms find their corporate lawyers with reduced workloads. Accounting firms find clients paying their bills on a less timely basis. And, consulting firms find a declining demand for their services. For now, these firms are cutting costs and slowing hiring. So far, layoffs are minimal. But clearly there's concern about the challenges of a shaky economy.
"If I was a 26-year-old making $100,000 a year in my first real job I ever held and I didn't have a lot of work to do right now, I'd be nervous," said legal recruiter Rick Rahaim of Howard, Williams & Rahaim.
In South Florida, law firms find themselves crammed with richly paid associates who have less work to do and fewer job opportunities elsewhere. As clients struggle and workloads decrease, firms are warning their professionals of an inevitable impact on raises, bonuses and perks....
