Apr. 27--A grocery store, condominiums, townhouses, shops and a world-class swimming facility may improve the lifestyle of Fort Lauderdale beach residents and benefit tourists.
Three developers are competing for the right to build those amenities and others on two parking lots along Las Olas Boulevard, at the east end of the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway.
To win the contract, they must also agree to build a garage with space for 1,000 vehicles, thus more than doubling existing parking and helping to reduce traffic woes.
On Tuesday, city commissioners will hear 15-minute presentations from each developer seeking to build on two parking lots at that location, and may ultimately approve one of them.
