May 23--CNN let "Moneyline" anchor Lou Dobbs keep a speaking engagement with Ford -- but the network put the brakes on more than two dozen speaking gigs booked by his predecessor, Stuart Varney.
Jim Keppler, Varney's agent, said his client had about 30 pre-arranged speaking engagements with business, civic and academic groups, but was forced to cancel them all before succeeding Dobbs as "Moneyline" anchor in 1999.
"Because they were pre-existing, we tried to keep them, \[but\] CNN made it very clear that Stuart could do no engagements, even those pre-booked," Keppler said. As a result, Varney walked...
