May 22--An autopilot malfunctioning on a cruise ship -- as it did on a two-year-old Norwegian Cruise Line vessel Saturday -- is highly unusual, marine experts said Monday.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Canadian authorities are investigating the cause of the failure that forced the Norwegian Sky to make a jarring turn and then list, sending plates and glasses crashing and injuring 78 of the 2,975 people aboard the ship, Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Scott Casad said.
