May 21--I have seen many bankruptcies in the past year. Some were easy to spot. They were dot-coms like Pets.com, eToys and MarchFirst that were bleeding money. When they ran out of cash, they were history. But other times, seemingly strong companies can surprise you unpleasantly.
Earlier this year, I attended a Bear Stearns investor conference. An analyst whom I respect pulled me aside and said, "You have to look at Casual Male," the dominant company in the big & tall men's clothing business. "It's a great story," he said.
