May 27--Tim Parris, president of Baylor University Medical Center, says the hospital intends "to lead the nation in the treatment of cardiovascular disease." Toward that end, he has announced two new endowed chairs for cardiovascular research and one endowed chair for health care research.
Mr. Parris says the three endowed chairs will be augmented by a training institute for robotics technology for a total cost of $22 million.
Baylor Health Care System Foundation will officially launch the fund-raising campaign within the next year, says Charles Cooper, foundation president. The silent segment of the campaign has already raised $12 million of that amount.
Mr. Cooper broke down the funding needs as follows:
$10 million for the Cardiovascular Surgical Research Endowed Chair, which will support research to develop advanced surgical options for patients and focus on minimally invasive and "off pump" surgical...
