May 26--For the first time in a long, long time, if we had some extra money, we might not invest it in stocks.
A Gallup survey in early April found that 53 percent said that if they had a thousand dollars, investing it in the stock market would be a bad idea. This confirmed a trend that seems to have begun late last year. That's a huge reversal in attitude.
In January 2000, 67 percent answered the same question saying the stock market was a good idea. That's been a strong belief among the majority of those polled dating back to 1990.
