May 25--Today's opening of Pearl Harbor should be a blockbuster for more reasons than one at three South Florida theaters.
It's opening weekend for three independent operators seeking to launch or bolster regional movie theater circuits amid the wreckage of the movie theater industry.
These operators believe there still remain opportunities to convert failed theaters or build new ones in strategic locations.
--Sunrise Cinemas adds its sixth South Florida location with the opening of the Intracoastal Theater in North Miami Beach, an eight-screen theater that has been shuttered since General Cinema filed for bankruptcy last year.
