May 24--DON'T BRUSH OFF BLUETOOTH POTENTIAL
QUESTION: I've been hearing about a technology called Bluetooth, but I don't know what it is and I'm afraid to ask my techie friends for fear of sounding like a doofus.
So, what is it?

ANSWER: Bluetooth is the name of a standard for short-range, high-speed wireless communication between devices.
The name comes from a 10th-century Viking king, and the technology could change some of the ways we communicate.
Major companies developing Bluetooth devices include 3Com, Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Lucent, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia and Toshiba. With players like these, you'll be seeing lots of Bluetooth-enabled mobile products such as computers, personal digital assistants and phones.
