Jun. 7--Stocks broke a four-day winning streak yesterday as discouraging outlooks from computer giant Hewlett-Packard and financial powerhouse J.P. Morgan Chase helped push investors to sell.
Adding to the cloudy forecast, influential Fed governor Laurence Meyer said the economy was likely to remain "sluggish" into the fall, but he cautioned that the central bank shouldn't cut interest rates too aggressively and ignite inflation.
