Aug. 2--Johnson Elementary School students learned their lessons in vandalized mobile units and often listened as rain from leaky roofs fell in wastebaskets.

Not this year.

As the Aug. 27 school day opening nears, Wilhelmina Harris' sons -- 12-year-old Jedidiah and 8-year-old Charles III -- grow more excited about the 13 new classrooms at Johnson. The classrooms will be ready when school starts.

That school project is just part of the Capital City's ongoing school construction, nearing a cost of $100 million. A total of 188 classrooms will be added to eradicate portables from Montgomery public school campuses this …
