At last it is good to see financial controllers, heads of finance and others in that tier getting the rewards they deserve.

Lately it has seemed that any new appointment of a finance director has been a lateral move.

How cheering then to see Ian Griffiths, Emap's financial controller, being given a crack of the whip as the publishing group's stand-in finance director.

It is widely predicted that Griffiths will get the top job, to replace Gary Hughes, who resigned in April, after he won the City over last week following, by all accounts, a storming presentation at the group's results announcement.
